DUTY STATEMENT

Purpose of Position

The Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow will be part of a collaborative research environment across the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation at QUT. In the field of supportive and palliative care, the Institute’s main areas of research include symptom management and health services research. The Institute also conducts research into health workforce development in palliative care, and manages a number of national projects funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing including the Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA). The appointee will be responsible for providing leadership in supportive and palliative care research, developing strategic research collaborations and establishing networks in this field.

Organisational Relationships

The position is located in the School of Nursing within the Faculty of Health, and reports to Professor Patsy Yates on a day-to-day basis for performance planning and review and workload management. The supportive and palliative care research programs are part of QUT’s largest interdisciplinary research institute, the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI), thus the Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow will hold membership of the Institute. The Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow will be required to collaborate with other researchers and liaise with research, administrative and academic staff of the University and other external organisations including industry partners. This position involves supervision of research staff working on related projects.

The Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow will be located at the Kelvin Grove campus of QUT and will undertake some local and interstate travel. The position will be required to liaise with a range of stakeholder, community contacts and the teams at Queensland Health’s Centre for Palliative Care Research and Education based at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

SELECTION CRITERIA – Research Fellow

Essential:

  1. Progression towards completion of a PhD in health or a relevant discipline.
  2. Demonstrated experience in the conduct of research with some published outcomes.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in research teams and proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  4. Demonstrated written communication skills to prepare material for scholarly and other publications.
  5. Demonstrated oral communication skills to present research findings in seminars and conferences.
  6. Demonstrated computer literacy, with proven ability in word processing and data presentation.

SELECTION CRITERIA - Senior Research Fellow

Essential:

  1. Completion of a PhD in health or a relevant discipline.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to prepare grant applications and conduct research with published outcomes.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with research teams and proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  4. Demonstrated experience in leadership of research teams and supervision of research staff.
  5. Demonstrated high level written communication skills to prepare material for scholarly and other publications.
  6. Demonstrated high level oral communication skills to present research findings in seminars and conferences.
  7. Demonstrated computer literacy, with proven ability in word processing and data presentation.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in conducting systematic literature reviews.
  2. Experience with consumer groups and advocacy groups.
