OUR PURPOSE
Integrated Help Services (IHS) is committed to providing the QUT community with friendly, high quality support services that assist students and staff in reaching their full potential in learning, teaching, research and administration. IHS works closely with all areas of the Division of Technology, Information and Learning Support as well as across the broader QUT community.
We do this through the provision of an integrated set of contact points for our clients to access assistance for the majority of IT services offered at QUT; the provision and support of high quality learning environments and world class audiovisual media support; working in partnership with faculties, research centres and other service areas to achieve efficiencies and seamless service provision; the establishment and support of self-help programs that will ensure the delivery of high quality services; and staying abreast of developments in the industry and a commitment to continuous professional development of staff
YOUR OPPORTUNITY
The appointee will assist in the development, installation and maintenance of designated PC based computer systems supporting the academic, teaching, research and administrative roles of the University which are the responsibility of Integrated Help Services.
As a member of Integrated Help Services within the Division of Technology, Information and Learning Support you will report to an IT Support Team Leader. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be as a member of an IHS team which will be campus-based, however team members will be required to operate across all sites of the University. The Computer Systems Officer will build and maintain strong relationships with faculty and/or Institute-based IT staff and work closely with clients and other IT staff in a professional and cooperative manner.

- Providing a high level of IT support to a wide range of clients.

- Ability to support a wide variety of software applications across different discipline areas in a university environment.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Play a key role in the Incident Management process, providing high quality and responsive client service within defined areas of responsibility.
- Respond to client inquiries and resolve technology-related incidents including installation of Standard Operating Environment (SOE) software components, identification and coordination of hardware fault repair and support of basic specialist applications.
- Perform duties to agreed quantifiable service indicators and proactively contribute to the development and review of such service indicators and measures. Escalate incidents as required and follow through for resolution.
- Support of Windows, Macintosh and Linux/ UNIX-based desktop systems with reference to local and QUT standards to support PC Infrastructure.
- Provide technical direction and assist in identifying IT training needs for staff in client areas, including appropriate personal professional development needs.
- Contribute to the planning process of IHS and the wider university by providing local recommendations to senior management, attendance at QUT-wide Computer Systems Officer (CSO) forums and participation in appropriate committees and working parties including active participation in community of practice activities and forums.
- Participate in information technology projects as required, to assist with the maintenance of existing systems, development and implementation of new systems, resolution of more complex problems and the evaluation of emergent technologies.
- Assist with asset management processes for organisational areas supported by the Team, or as directed.
- Establish/maintain lines of communication between IHS, Information Technology Services (ITS) and client groups with a view to keeping all parties informed of incidents, problems/resolution in regards to the service provided by the system affected.
- Maintain knowledge of current, new and evolving strategies and technologies in relation to specific faculty/division/institute technology development through appropriate peer networks and relevant training.

Qualifications Required
To be assessed via applicant’s resume:
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of a degree in a relevant discipline; or completion of an associate diploma in conjunction with at least 2 years relevant experience.
Skills and Capabilities Required
You will be assessed on the basis of relevant capability and capacity for the following:
- Demonstrated experience in the use and support of workstations, operating systems and applications in a multi-platform environment. This includes development of Standard Operating Environments for Windows, Macintosh and/or Linux/ UNIX.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and action solutions to resolve problems in a complex environment.
- Ability to communicate with senior management, information technology professionals and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment, including the ability to write clear and concise reports.
- Demonstrated ability to manage small projects, working effectively as a member of a team or independently, and prioritising activities to achieve objectives in specified timeframes.
- Demonstrated experience in the support of a wide range of software, computer hardware and peripherals in a large scale multi vendor network environment.
Desirable
- Previous experience in the higher education sector.
- Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).
- Certification in IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundations.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- The incumbent may be required to be contactable and/or work hours outside the normal work hours.
- Whilst all physical manual handling has been minimised through safe design, the use of mechanical aids and assisted devices, some physical handling of computer equipment or other loads will be required.
