It has been designated a linked classification position. This means that the position covers two classification levels to meet the workforce requirements of the organisational area. It also provides staff in linked positions with the opportunity for further development and extended career and salary horizons.

OUR PURPOSE
Teaching and Learning Support Services (TALSS) employs a multidisciplinary team of staff to deliver our services to QUT staff and Students. TALSS provides leadership and support in the implementation of strategic University initiatives for learning and teaching through academic professional development and learner support.
YOUR OPPORTUNITY
You will be responsible for supporting enhancements to the learning and teaching resources within the university and enhancing effectiveness and quality in areas of online learning and teaching, support for faculties in building teaching staff capacity in designing for learning and incorporating appropriate technologies to enhance learning outcomes, and associated pedagogy and resource development.
You will also work closely with the academic community to improve the quality of learning and teaching, as well as policy development and implementation, with a particular emphasis on providing guidance and support in the areas of appropriate use of resources for teaching staff.
Some of the key challenges of the role will be:
- Advise and contribute to various committees or working parties related to learning design.
- Be a member of School or Faculty Online Learning and Teaching Committees (where they exist) and to work closely on a day-to-day level with faculty teaching staff.
- Develop effective working relationships with client faculty areas, with TALSS team members, and with peers as part of the internal TALSS network.
- Be an active member of the Learning Design team, involved in developing the intelligent use of the LMS – QUT Blackboard – across the University.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of educational resource materials in various curricula to ensure these are consistent with planned student learning outcomes.
- Design, plan and manage production of online or audiovisual projects and materials in various technologies such as video, audio, computer and print formats to meet learning design objectives of courses, units, and classes.
- Evaluate and help teaching staff to evaluate learning outcomes for educational technology and learning resources developed. Make constructive suggestions for improvements at an individual and process level.
- Plan, develop appropriate materials and conduct training sessions for staff regarding the effective use of media in educational technology and available media, including effective planning and design of instructional media.
- Develop and disseminate a research area of interest related to educational technology or learning design and contribute to the collective knowledge and excellence of the Learning Designers and the faculty staff at QUT. This would include recommendations regarding policy change at an institutional and faculty level.
- Monitor and evaluate journal articles concerning new developments in educational technology more generally and disseminate as appropriate.
- Advise and contribute to various committees or working parties related to learning design.
- Develop budgets and estimations for project productions, and project manage small teams.
- Supervise and coordinate in-house or freelance work during production of materials.
ADDITIONAL KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HEW8
- Contribute to the development of university policy in the broad area of effective learning and teaching outcomes, specifically within an alignment to the identified areas of expertise such as online learning and teaching, accessibility, evaluation, curriculum design, interface design, mobile technologies and assessment.
- Take responsibility more directly for implementation of university policy in the area of excellence in learning and teaching.
- Developing and maintaining a high level “subject expert” (equivalent) standing in a specific aspect of learning and teaching policy/practice.

Qualifications Required
To be assessed via applicant’s resume:
HEW7
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of a degree in a relevant field together with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
HEW8
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field, together with extensive relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Skills and Capabilities Required
You will be assessed on the basis of relevant capability and capacity for the following:
- Demonstrated ability and experience in incorporating effective learning design into educational technology and media resources, related consultation with teaching staff, and participating in curriculum development for online environments, such as Learning Management Systems eg Blackboard.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in identifying, developing and evaluating learning outcomes that are achievable with different learning designs, educational technologies/software and various media, and experience in using different technologies and media to enhance the learning experience.
- Demonstrated high standard of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport quickly as well as provide training to people at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise and carry out activities in order to produce deliverables within deadlines.
In addition to the above skills and experience required, applicants wishing to be considered for appointment at HEW8 would need to demonstrate:
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in a specific professional educational area(s) which has relevance to continuous improvement in the design and delivery of the learning experience through for example resource development; interface design; course/ curriculum design; evaluation and assessment; quality assurance; teaching excellence; professional skills development; or a related field.
- Demonstrated understanding of project management and experience in providing leadership within a project.
- Demonstrated understanding of policy as it relates to learning design and educational settings.
