We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced associate lecturer/lecturer in the broad environmental/geotechnical/municipal engineering areas. The successful applicant is expected to teach students enrolled in the Faculty’s teaching programs, particularly in the civil engineering discipline, and to develop a research career. INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

Appointment will be made at either Associate Lecturer or Lecturer level depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants should nominate the level for which they are applying and address the selection criteria for the nominated level.

This position is part of the Early Career Academic Development Program at QUT. The appointees will participate in an extensive development program specifically designed for this cohort. The program which is conducted over one year aims to provide participants with a comprehensive suite of skills, knowledge and abilities to ensure success in an academic career. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

QUT defines an Early Career Academic as a person who has been in an academic role for less than three years.

The Faculty

The Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering aspires to make a positive difference to people’s lives by engineering, designing and developing a better world. The School

The School of Urban Development currently has 55 full-time staff and contributes to teaching, research and consultancy in the professional disciplines of Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Property Economics, Quantity Surveying, Surveying, Spatial Science and Urban and Regional Planning. The School’s academic focus is on the delivery of interdisciplinary research and scholarship in integrated infrastructure development and infrastructure project management and there are strong links with major projects, through partnerships with the Brisbane Airport Corporation, Queensland Transport, the CRC for Construction Innovation and the Shell Project Academy.

All appointees are expected to have grounding in one or more of the professional disciplines. Ability to contribute in one of the Faculty’s areas of emphasis will be well regarded. The successful candidate is likely to have experience in environmental engineering and/or geotechnical engineering within a civil engineering context.

DUTY STATEMENT – ASSOCIATE LECTURER

The position reports to the Head of School, and will liaise with academic and professional staff, and with students of the Faculty on a daily basis. The position is located within the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering at the Gardens Point campus.

General standard

An associate lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the University, particularly at undergraduate and graduate diploma level and to carry out activities to develop his/her scholarly, research, application and/or professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline. The associate lecturer will be expected to collaborate and participate in team work associated with faculty activities.

Specific duties

Specific duties of an associate lecturer may include:

SELECTION CRITERIA - ASSOCIATE LECTURER

Appointees must demonstrate an ability, or the potential, to undertake the duties prescribed for the position and must possess the necessary skills required for the position, or be able to acquire those skills within three years.

Subject to the preceding paragraph, to be appointed as an associate lecturer a candidate normally must meet the following selection criteria to the satisfaction of the selection panel and the authorising officer:

An applicant who does not meet one or more of the selection criteria, but who is considered by the selection panel to have the potential to do so within the period of normal probation (three years), or term of appointment may be appointed with the panel recommending participation in staff development during the probation period. In such cases the letter of offer of appointment shall state specific matters to which the staff development is to be directed.
