We are seeking two (2) enthusiastic and experienced designers to teach computer aided design to QUT University students. The successful applicants will have previous teaching experience, possess a first degree in a design discipline and an in-depth understanding of how to apply advanced 3D modelling principles, computer aided design practices, and other digital design techniques within a design and engineering context. A knowledge of Building Information Modelling would be a particular advantage. Women, Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

Appointment will be made at either Associate Lecturer or Lecturer level depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants should nominate the level for which they are applying and address the selection criteria for the nominated level.

This position is part of the Early Career Academic Development Program at QUT. The appointees will participate in an extensive development program specifically designed for this cohort. The program which is conducted over one year aims to provide participants with a comprehensive suite of skills, knowledge and abilities to ensure success in an academic career. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Faculty

The Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering aspires to make a positive difference to people’s lives by engineering, designing and developing a better world. The School

The School provides academic and professional leadership in the disciplines of Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design.

The School of Design is concentrating its academic focus on the application of digital design tools to the sustainability agenda and applicants should be able to demonstrate capabilities in digital techniques for design. In support of this focus the School undertakes research and development of techniques to assist in the design of systems, interfaces and environments to achieve social, environmental and economic improvement and advantage. This includes: Human Centred Design Research Laboratory, Colour and Light Laboratory, Architectural Science Laboratory, Synthetic Environment Laboratory, Practice Laboratory, Learning Laboratory and the recently created Virtual Prototyping Laboratory.

All appointees are expected to have grounding in one or more of the professional disciplines.

DUTY STATEMENT – ASSOCIATE LECTURER

Position Purpose

An Associate Lecturer is expected to:

Organisational Relationships

The position reports to the Head of School, and will liaise with academic and professional staff, and with students of the Faculty on a daily basis. The position is located within the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering at the Gardens Point campus.

General standard

An associate lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the University, particularly at undergraduate and graduate diploma level and to carry out activities to develop his/her scholarly, research, application and/or professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline. The associate lecturer will be expected to collaborate and participate in team work associated with faculty activities.

Specific duties

Specific duties of an associate lecturer may include:

SELECTION CRITERIA - ASSOCIATE LECTURER

Appointees must demonstrate an ability to undertake the duties prescribed for the position and must possess the necessary skills required for the position, or be able to acquire those skills within three years.

To be appointed as an associate lecturer a candidate normally must meet the following selection criteria to the satisfaction of the selection panel and the authorising officer:

An applicant who does not meet one or more of the selection criteria, but who is considered by the selection panel to have the potential to do so within the period of normal probation (three years), or term of appointment may be appointed with the panel recommending participation in staff development during the probation period. In such cases the letter of offer of appointment shall state specific matters to which the staff development is to be directed.

Subject to the preceeding paragraph, to be appointed as a lecturer a candidate must meet the following selection criteria to the satisfaction of the selection panel and the authorising officer:

Equivalent standing can be demonstrated by comparison of attainment in areas relevant to academic employment with the standard attained in a masters or doctoral degree in the relevant discipline area.
