BACKGROUND INFORMATION
QUT defines an Early Career Academic as a person who has been in an academic role for less than three years.
The growing creative industries sector requires individual creativity, skill and talent and offers diverse and rewarding career opportunities. QUT’s Creative Industries Faculty is supporting growth in the sector by delivering courses, pursuing research opportunities and by facilitating the creation of new works.
QUT Music has a focus on contemporary and emerging forms of music practice and is characterised by a strong industry and practical focus. The music industry has undergone unprecedented change in the past five years with new channels for artists to reach and build audiences via Web 2.0 sites and other social media networks, opening up new possibilities alongside traditional major label and publisher models. QUT Music is committed to preparing music graduates to be successful in this rapidly changing world. In line with this commitment, we are revising our program to reflect up-to-the-minute approaches and to provide a unique opportunity within the Australian tertiary music sector for students to undertake a future-focused music program that reflects current and emerging practices. The successful applicant will build our talent base behind this commitment and will contribute to teaching and research in these areas. They will have current industry experience, active industry links and understand the key shifts which have occurred in the music industry in the last 5-10 years. The successful applicant will join a dynamic team and will be responsible for teaching and coordination at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The ideal applicant would be qualified to contribute towards creative practice-led research in music, as well as demonstrating the capacity to coordinate and teach into a number music and related disciplinary units.
